Municipal Governance and MFMA Compliance

Equips municipal officials and councillors across the region to run local government within the Municipal Finance Management Act and related frameworks. The programme works through supply chain oversight, irregular expenditure prevention, delegations and the roles of the accounting officer, council and audit committee. Delegates use real municipal cases to strengthen clean audit outcomes and service delivery accountability.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the governance roles of council, the accounting officer and oversight committees.
  • Apply MFMA requirements to budgeting, reporting and expenditure control.
  • Identify and prevent unauthorised, irregular and fruitless expenditure.
  • Design delegation and internal control arrangements for municipal functions.
  • Prepare for external audit and respond to management letters and findings.
  • Develop an action plan to improve municipal audit outcomes.
