Municipal Budgeting and MFMA Compliance

Every municipal service ultimately depends on a credible budget and the discipline to spend within it. How municipalities build, table and monitor budgets under the Municipal Finance Management Act is examined, covering the budget timetable, funding, in year reporting and the roles of officials and council in keeping spending accountable.

What you will be able to do

  • Follow the budget timetable set out under the Municipal Finance Management Act.
  • Compile a capital and operating budget that is funded and realistic.
  • Explain the roles of the accounting officer, chief financial officer and council in the budget process.
