Mineral Processing Plant Safety and Hazard Management

Examines the safety hazards specific to mineral processing plants in South Africa, including crushing and milling circuits, chemical reagent handling, high pressure systems and mechanical guarding. Prepares plant supervisors and safety officers to manage process hazards, isolate equipment safely and reduce injury risk in concentrator and processing environments.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify hazards associated with crushing, milling and screening circuits.
  • Apply safe handling procedures for chemical reagents used in processing.
  • Verify isolation and lockout arrangements before equipment maintenance work.
  • Inspect mechanical guarding and interlocks on processing plant equipment.
  • Manage high pressure and high temperature system hazards safely.
  • Investigate process plant incidents to strengthen ongoing hazard controls.
