Mine Winding Plant and Shaft Conveyance Safety

Builds practical competence in the safe operation, inspection and maintenance of winders, headgear and shaft conveyances used on deep level South African mines. Participants examine rope condition assessment, overwind protection, signalling systems and the statutory examination regime that keeps people and materials moving safely between surface and working levels.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the main components of winding plant and shaft conveyance systems.
  • Assess winding rope condition and interpret non destructive test findings.
  • Verify overwind, overspeed and brake protection systems during examinations.
  • Apply safe signalling and conveyance loading procedures across shifts.
  • Schedule statutory examinations and maintenance for winding installations.
  • Investigate winder related incidents and recommend preventive controls.
