Mine Signage, Barricading and Hazard Demarcation Standards

Builds a consistent approach to signage, barricading and demarcation that warns people of hazards and controls access across African surface and underground mines. Participants learn to select, place and maintain warning systems for open holes, excavations, no go areas and energised equipment. The programme addresses a control that is simple in principle yet frequently fails in practice.

What you will be able to do

  • Apply signage and colour coding standards for mining hazards.
  • Select appropriate barricading for open holes, edges and excavations.
  • Demarcate no go areas, danger zones and restricted access points.
  • Maintain and inspect barricades and signage for effectiveness.
  • Control access to isolated, blasted and unsupported areas.
  • Audit demarcation practice and close out non conformances.
