Mine Gas Detection Instrumentation and Atmospheric Monitoring

Reliable gas detection is the backbone of a safe underground atmosphere, yet many incidents trace back to poorly calibrated or misused instruments. This programme builds practical competence in selecting, calibrating and interpreting fixed and portable gas monitors across African underground operations. Delegates practise response protocols for methane, carbon monoxide and oxygen deficient conditions.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the behaviour of key mine gases and their exposure limits.
  • Select fixed and portable gas detection instruments for underground use.
  • Calibrate and bump test gas monitors to maintain reliable readings.
  • Interpret atmospheric monitoring data and alarm conditions correctly.
  • Apply response protocols for gas accumulation and oxygen deficiency.
  • Maintain instrument records that support audit and incident investigation.
