Mine Dewatering and Underground Pumping Systems Operations

Provides operational and safety knowledge for teams running dewatering and pumping systems that keep underground workings dry and safe across Southern African mines. The course covers pump station design, cascade pumping, settlers, dam management and the electrical and mechanical risks involved. Emphasis is placed on reliable operation, water balance and preventing uncontrolled water accumulation.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the layout and function of underground dewatering and pumping systems.
  • Operate cascade pump stations, settlers and storage dams safely.
  • Monitor water balance and respond to rising water conditions.
  • Apply isolation and safe working practices around pumps and columns.
  • Plan preventive maintenance and standby capacity for pumping systems.
  • Recognise inrush warning signs and escalate emergency dewatering needs.
