Metallurgical and Alloy Laboratory Analysis

A practical course on the chemical and physical testing of metals and alloys for foundries, steelworks, mining and fabrication laboratories. Participants cover spark emission spectrometry, mechanical testing, metallography and hardness measurement, and learn how to link laboratory results to material grade and fitness for service.

What you will be able to do

  • Prepare metal samples correctly for chemical and physical testing.
  • Operate optical emission spectrometers for alloy composition analysis.
  • Conduct tensile, impact and hardness tests on metallic materials.
  • Prepare and examine metallographic specimens for microstructure.
  • Match test results to material grades and specifications.
  • Report metallurgical findings for quality and failure investigations.
