Mechanical Sealing and Gasket Technology for Plant Maintenance

Leaking seals and gaskets are among the most common and costly problems in African process plants, causing product loss, safety hazards and repeat repairs. This programme builds practical competence in selecting, fitting and troubleshooting mechanical seals, gaskets and packing across pumps, valves and flanged joints. Participants learn to match sealing solutions to the fluid and duty and to eliminate the root causes of repeat leaks.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain how mechanical seals, gaskets and gland packing contain fluids under pressure.
  • Select sealing solutions to match fluid type, temperature, pressure and duty.
  • Fit and set mechanical seals correctly to achieve their design life.
  • Prepare and assemble flanged joints and gaskets to prevent leaks.
  • Diagnose seal and gasket failures and trace them to their root causes.
  • Build a sealing standard that reduces repeat leaks across the plant.
