Measurement Uncertainty in Testing

A focused, calculation heavy course on estimating and reporting measurement uncertainty for testing laboratories. Uses realistic data from water, mining, petrochemical and industrial testing to walk delegates through uncertainty budgets, contributing factors and reporting formats consistent with recognised laboratory practice, building confidence when defending results to clients and regulators.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the concept of measurement uncertainty and its role in test results.
  • Identify sources of uncertainty across sampling, preparation and measurement steps.
  • Build an uncertainty budget using a bottom up approach for a chosen test method.
  • Calculate combined and expanded uncertainty using standard formulae.
  • Interpret uncertainty values when comparing results to specification limits.
  • Report measurement uncertainty clearly within test and calibration reports.
