Manual Handling and Ergonomics for Underground Mine Workers

Cramped stopes, awkward postures and heavy equipment make musculoskeletal injury one of the most common and underreported harms in African underground mining. This programme helps mine teams assess ergonomic risk and redesign tasks to reduce strain and injury. Delegates learn practical assessment tools and low cost improvements suited to underground conditions.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify manual handling and ergonomic risks in underground tasks.
  • Apply practical assessment tools to rank musculoskeletal risk.
  • Redesign tasks, tools and layouts to reduce physical strain.
  • Coach safe lifting, posture and handling techniques for workers.
  • Link ergonomic improvements to injury and absence data.
  • Build an ergonomics improvement plan for the operation.
