Managing Underperformance and Corrective Action for Managers
Persistent underperformance drains team morale and quietly erodes results, yet many managers avoid tackling it for fear of conflict or getting the process wrong. This course gives leaders a fair, structured way to identify, document and address poor performance while staying within reasonable and lawful workplace practice. Participants gain the confidence to hold honest performance conversations and to support employees back to acceptable standards.
What you will be able to do
Distinguish between poor performance, misconduct and incapacity in the workplace.
Set clear performance standards and expectations that employees can be held to.
Document underperformance objectively using evidence rather than opinion.
Conduct structured corrective and counselling conversations with fairness and respect.
Build practical performance improvement plans with realistic milestones.
Escalate consistently and fairly when improvement does not materialise.
