Managing Fast Tracked and Compressed Project Schedules

Sooner or later a sponsor demands the same scope in far less time, and the project manager has to compress the schedule without wrecking quality or budget. This course covers the techniques of fast tracking and crashing, and the risks each one creates. Examples reflect African projects under pressure from funding windows, political deadlines and seasonal constraints.

What you will be able to do

  • Analyse a schedule to find where genuine compression is possible.
  • Apply fast tracking by overlapping activities that normally run in sequence.
  • Use crashing to shorten duration by adding resources where it pays off.
  • Weigh the cost, quality and risk trade offs of each compression choice.
  • Manage the added coordination and rework risk of compressed schedules.
  • Communicate compressed plans honestly to sponsors and teams.
