Managing Cross Functional Teams and Projects

Cross functional projects bring together people from different departments with different priorities, reporting lines and definitions of success, which makes them notoriously difficult to lead without formal authority. This course teaches managers how to align stakeholders, negotiate resources across departments, manage competing priorities and keep cross functional initiatives moving despite the absence of direct control over every team member.

What you will be able to do

  • Align stakeholders from different departments around a shared project goal.
  • Negotiate resources and commitment from managers outside your direct authority.
  • Manage competing departmental priorities that threaten project timelines.
  • Communicate progress and risk clearly to a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Resolve disputes between functional representatives without damaging working relationships.
  • Close out a cross functional project with clear accountability and lessons learned.
