Loading, Offloading and Yard Safety Management

Targets the high risk zone where people, vehicles and cargo meet, namely the loading bay and yard. Participants learn how to control vehicle and pedestrian movement, safe loading practice and cargo securing to prevent injuries and load shifts. The course reflects South African depot and warehouse conditions, from forklift traffic to reversing trucks and mixed contractor activity.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the main hazards in loading bays, yards and marshalling areas.
  • Separate vehicle and pedestrian movement using layout and controls.
  • Apply safe loading, offloading and reversing procedures.
  • Secure and restrain cargo to prevent load shift and falling objects.
  • Coordinate forklifts, trucks and contractors sharing the yard safely.
  • Investigate yard incidents and put corrective measures in place.

Suited to yard and depot supervisors, loading bay controllers, warehouse and dispatch staff, and safety representatives responsible for vehicle interface areas.
