Labour Law for Line Managers

Line managers make daily decisions that carry legal weight, often without realising it. Discipline, poor performance, grievances and dismissal all sit inside a framework set by the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995. The programme translates that framework into plain guidance a manager can apply on the floor.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the main duties a line manager owes under employment law.
  • Distinguish misconduct, poor performance and incapacity, and respond to each correctly.
  • Run a fair disciplinary process from investigation to hearing.
  • Handle grievances before they escalate into disputes.
  • Apply the tests for procedural and substantive fairness in a dismissal.
  • Recognise when to involve human resources or seek legal advice.
