Investigation and Disciplinary Report Writing for Managers

When a workplace incident, grievance or misconduct case arises, the quality of the written record can decide the outcome at a disciplinary hearing or the CCMA. This course teaches South African managers and investigators to gather facts, record evidence and write investigation and disciplinary reports that are accurate, fair and able to withstand challenge, without straying into legal opinion they are not qualified to give.

What you will be able to do

  • Plan an investigation and identify the facts and evidence a report must capture.
  • Record statements, evidence and observations accurately and objectively.
  • Structure an investigation report so findings follow clearly from evidence.
  • Distinguish fact from assumption, opinion and hearsay in writing.
  • Write findings and outcomes in fair, defensible language.
  • Prepare documentation that supports a disciplinary process and hearing.
