Internal Audit and Combined Assurance in Practice

Internal audit sits between management assurance and the audit committee, and the gap between those two is where most findings get lost. Risk based audit planning, evidence discipline and reporting that boards and accounting officers act on, using South African public and private sector cases.

What you will be able to do

  • Build a risk based annual audit plan that maps to the organisation's actual risk register rather than last year's schedule.
  • Distinguish the assurance provided by internal audit, external audit, management self assessment and regulatory inspection.
  • Gather and reference audit evidence that survives challenge from an auditee or an external reviewer.
  • Write findings with a clear condition, cause, consequence and agreed corrective action.
  • Apply PFMA and MFMA expectations when auditing public entities and municipalities.
  • Present audit results to an audit committee so that systemic control failure is separated from isolated error.
