Industrial Steam and Boiler Energy Efficiency Optimisation

Steam and boiler systems are among the largest energy consumers on African manufacturing and processing sites, yet losses through poor combustion, leaking traps and uninsulated pipework quietly erode margins. This programme shows engineers and plant teams how to measure boiler efficiency, cut fuel waste and recover heat under real operating constraints. Delegates leave able to build a costed efficiency improvement plan for their own steam plant.

What you will be able to do

  • Calculate boiler efficiency using the direct and indirect methods for coal, gas and biomass fired plant.
  • Identify combustion, blowdown and flue gas losses and quantify their fuel cost impact.
  • Assess steam distribution networks for trap failures, leaks and insulation gaps.
  • Evaluate heat recovery options such as economisers, condensate return and flash steam recovery.
  • Prioritise efficiency measures using simple payback and life cycle cost comparison.
  • Develop a monitoring and targeting plan to sustain steam system energy savings.
