Carbon Tax, Emissions Reporting and Decarbonisation Planning

South Africa's carbon tax turns emissions into a line on the income statement. The work here covers building a defensible greenhouse gas inventory, understanding allowances and offsets, and writing a reduction plan that finance will actually fund in the current budget cycle.

What you will be able to do

  • Set organisational and operational boundaries for a greenhouse gas inventory that will withstand scrutiny.
  • Distinguish scope one, scope two and material scope three emissions using site level activity data.
  • Apply emission factors correctly to fuel, electricity, process and fugitive sources.
  • Explain how carbon tax liability is calculated and where allowances and offsets reduce it.
  • Identify abatement projects and rank them by cost per tonne avoided.
  • Assemble a reduction roadmap with baselines, targets, owners and reporting checkpoints.
