HR Administration and Payroll Practice

Payroll runs and personnel records sit at the centre of every HR function, yet errors here quickly become grievances and audit findings. Accurate wage calculation, statutory deductions, leave administration and the recordkeeping expected under South African labour law are covered, with practical exercises drawn from monthly and weekly pay cycles.

What you will be able to do

  • Calculate gross and net pay, including overtime, allowances and statutory deductions such as PAYE, UIF and SDL.
  • Administer leave, terminations and new engagements so that records stay current and auditable.
  • Apply the Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997 to working time, pay and leave entitlements.
  • Reconcile payroll totals against the general ledger and third party payment schedules.
  • Maintain personnel files in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
  • Prepare payroll reports for management, revenue authority submissions and year end tax certificates.
