High Performance Liquid Chromatography Techniques

High performance liquid chromatography is central to pharmaceutical, food, water and petrochemical testing throughout African laboratories, yet method transfer between instruments and operators often introduces variability. This course develops sound HPLC practice, covering mobile phase preparation, column chemistry, detector selection and system suitability testing, so analysts generate consistent, defensible results across shifts and sites.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the principles of liquid chromatography separation and common detector technologies.
  • Prepare mobile phases and select columns appropriate to the analyte and matrix.
  • Perform system suitability testing before releasing quantitative HPLC results.
  • Operate HPLC systems for isocratic and gradient methods across sample types.
  • Troubleshoot pressure faults, peak shape problems and retention time drift.
  • Validate transferred methods to confirm equivalent performance between instruments and operators.
