Hand Arm and Whole Body Vibration Management for Mine Operators

Rock drills, haul trucks and mobile equipment expose African mine operators to hand arm and whole body vibration that can cause lasting nerve, circulatory and spinal harm. This programme builds the skills to measure vibration exposure, apply engineering and administrative controls, and monitor worker health. Delegates develop a practical vibration management approach for their fleet and equipment.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the health effects of hand arm and whole body vibration.
  • Measure and estimate operator vibration exposure over a shift.
  • Apply equipment, seating and maintenance controls to reduce vibration.
  • Manage job rotation and exposure duration for high vibration tasks.
  • Coordinate health surveillance for vibration related conditions.
  • Build a vibration management programme for mine equipment.
