Green Data Centre Design and Energy Efficient IT Operations

As African organisations expand their digital infrastructure, data centres and server rooms become significant and growing energy loads, frequently backed by diesel generators during outages. This programme introduces the metrics, cooling strategies and operating practices that reduce power use and carbon intensity in IT facilities. Delegates learn to benchmark performance and plan efficiency and resilience improvements together.

What you will be able to do

  • Define data centre efficiency metrics such as power usage effectiveness and their limitations.
  • Analyse the energy split between IT load, cooling and power distribution.
  • Apply airflow management and cooling strategies suited to warm African climates.
  • Evaluate options for cleaner backup power and reduced diesel dependence.
  • Assess virtualisation, consolidation and equipment refresh for energy reduction.
  • Outline an efficiency and resilience improvement roadmap for a server room or data centre.
