Grant Funding and Project Management in the Public Sector

This course builds the skills needed to secure, manage and report on conditional grants and donor funding within municipalities and government departments, including the Municipal Infrastructure Grant and other national transfers. Participants learn project planning, procurement sequencing, expenditure monitoring against grant business plans, and the reporting disciplines required to avoid grant rollovers, stoppages or withdrawal.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the conditional grant framework and the consequences of poor performance.
  • Develop a grant business plan that links milestones to disbursement schedules.
  • Sequence procurement activities so that projects spend grant funds within the financial year.
  • Monitor project expenditure against approved grant business plans and cash flow projections.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly grant performance reports for transferring departments.
  • Respond to underperformance findings that could trigger grant stoppage or withdrawal.
