Gold Room and Smelthouse Safety and Security Operations

Addresses the combined safety and security challenges of gold rooms and smelthouses at African gold operations, where molten metal, mercury and high value product converge. Participants learn to manage burns, fume exposure, furnace operations and the access control that protects both people and product. The programme reflects the strict controls required in final recovery areas.

What you will be able to do

  • Control mercury, acid and fume exposure during retorting and smelting.
  • Apply safe procedures for calcine handling, fluxing and slag management.
  • Establish access control and security protocols for the gold room.
  • Maintain ventilation, personal protective equipment and hygiene standards.
  • Respond to burns, spills and fume incidents in final recovery areas.
