Geothermal Energy Resource Assessment and Development

The East African Rift holds some of the world's most promising geothermal resources, yet skills to develop them remain scarce. This programme introduces geothermal exploration, resource assessment, drilling and power plant options for both electricity and direct use applications. Delegates build the technical vocabulary and project awareness needed to participate in geothermal development across the region.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the geological settings that give rise to exploitable geothermal resources.
  • Describe surface exploration and resource assessment methods used before drilling.
  • Compare conventional and binary power plant technologies for different resource temperatures.
  • Identify direct use applications suited to lower temperature geothermal resources.
  • Assess the drilling, well testing and reservoir management stages of a project.
  • Evaluate the risks, costs and financing structures typical of geothermal development.
