Gas Detection and Emergency Shutdown System Maintenance

Gas detection and emergency shutdown systems are the last line of defence in African refineries, mines and process plants, and they must work on demand. Poor maintenance leaves them silently unavailable. This programme teaches technicians to maintain, calibrate and function test detectors and shutdown systems so that they protect people and plant when a hazard occurs.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain how gas detection and emergency shutdown systems protect people and plant.
  • Calibrate and bump test gas detectors using appropriate test gases.
  • Function test emergency shutdown logic and final elements safely.
  • Manage overrides, inhibits and bypasses under strict control during maintenance.
  • Diagnose faults in detectors, logic solvers and shutdown valves.
  • Maintain records that prove safety systems remain available and reliable.
