Fitting, Turning and Machine Tool Skills for Maintenance Artisans

A well equipped maintenance workshop that can machine and repair its own parts is a huge asset where imported spares are slow and costly. This programme develops the bench fitting and machining skills that let African maintenance teams manufacture and refurbish components in house. Delegates practise measurement, marking out, filing, drilling and basic lathe work to restore or reproduce parts to acceptable tolerances.

What you will be able to do

  • Use precision measuring instruments to work to specified tolerances.
  • Mark out, file, drill and tap components accurately at the bench.
  • Set up and operate a centre lathe for basic turning operations.
  • Select cutting tools, speeds and feeds for common workshop tasks.
  • Refurbish worn components such as shafts, bushes and threads.
  • Apply workshop safety and good housekeeping around machine tools.
