Fire and Rescue Services Management for Local Government
This course prepares municipal fire chiefs and station officers to plan, resource and command fire and rescue services as a core local government function. Participants examine fire station siting, appliance and equipment fleets, crew shift systems and mutual aid arrangements between neighbouring municipalities. The programme reflects the strained conditions many African fire services operate under, including ageing fleets, informal settlement fires and water supply shortfalls at incidents.
What you will be able to do
Plan fire and rescue coverage using risk categorisation and response time standards.
Manage appliance fleets, equipment and firefighting water resources within limited budgets.
Structure crew shift systems, training rosters and physical fitness programmes.
Coordinate mutual aid and multi agency response for major incidents.
