FICA Compliance for Accountable Institutions

Customer due diligence, risk rating and suspicious transaction reporting are daily work for accountable institutions. The obligations under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act are set out in practical terms, including beneficial ownership checks, record keeping periods and what a compliance officer should escalate and when.

What you will be able to do

  • Determine whether a business falls within the categories of accountable institution.
  • Apply customer due diligence proportionate to the money laundering risk presented by each client.
  • Verify beneficial ownership for companies, trusts and partnerships.
  • Screen clients against sanctions and prominent influential person lists.
  • Recognise reportable activity and prepare a suspicious transaction report within the required period.
  • Maintain a risk management and compliance programme that survives a supervisory inspection.
