Expatriate and Cross-Border HR Management for Africa

Support employees and their HR teams through assignments across African borders, from a first posting into a neighbouring country through to a return home. Delegates cover work permit and immigration basics, host country labour law differences, tax equalisation principles, assignment policy design and the practical support assignees need to succeed, drawing on examples from mining, telecommunications and financial services expansion across the continent.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the immigration and work permit requirements for common African destinations.
  • Compare host country labour law differences that affect an assignment contract.
  • Apply tax equalisation principles to protect an assignee from double taxation.
  • Design an assignment policy covering allowances, housing and family support.
  • Prepare an assignee and their family for cultural and practical adjustment.
  • Manage repatriation and reintegration at the end of an assignment.
