Establishing and Running a Project Management Office

Many South African organisations set up a PMO, staff it, and watch it drift into a reporting function nobody trusts. This course covers designing a PMO with a clear mandate, choosing the right level of control for the organisation's maturity, building templates and governance that project teams will actually use, and proving the office's value in terms leadership recognises.

What you will be able to do

  • Define a PMO mandate that matches the organisation's project maturity and appetite for control.
  • Select the PMO model, supportive, controlling or directive, appropriate to each business unit.
  • Design governance structures, gates and templates that teams adopt rather than resist.
  • Establish portfolio reporting that gives executives a defensible view of project health.
  • Build the PMO's resourcing model, including roles, skills and career paths.
  • Demonstrate PMO value through metrics that link project delivery to business outcomes.
