Editing and Proofreading for Workplace Documents

Reports, proposals and official documents that leave South African organisations often carry errors that a careful final check would have caught. This course teaches practical self editing and proofreading techniques, covering grammar, consistency, structure and factual accuracy, so delegates can review their own and colleagues' documents before they reach clients, management or the public.

What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish between structural editing, line editing and proofreading as separate stages of review.
  • Identify recurring grammar, punctuation and consistency errors common in South African workplace writing.
  • Apply a systematic checklist to catch errors before a document is finalised.
  • Check documents for factual accuracy, internal consistency and correct cross referencing.
  • Edit for clarity and conciseness without changing the author's intended meaning.
  • Give constructive editing feedback to colleagues without causing offence or delay.
