Earthing, Bonding and Lightning Protection System Maintenance

With frequent and severe lightning across much of Africa, sound earthing and lightning protection is vital to protect people, equipment and continuity of supply. Over time these systems corrode and drift out of specification without anyone noticing. This programme teaches maintenance teams to inspect, test and maintain earthing, bonding and lightning protection so that they perform when a strike or fault occurs.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the purpose of earthing, bonding and lightning protection systems.
  • Inspect earth electrodes, conductors and bonding for corrosion and damage.
  • Measure earth resistance and continuity using appropriate test methods.
  • Assess lightning protection systems for coverage and integrity.
  • Identify and correct common defects that degrade protection over time.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate systems remain within specification.
