Dragline and Large Surface Excavator Operations Safety

Focuses on the safe operation and support of draglines and large surface excavators used in strip and open pit mining across Southern Africa. Delegates cover machine walking, digging sequences, bench and spoil stability and the interaction of large machines with support fleets and people. The course strengthens operator discipline and supervisory oversight around these high consequence machines.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe dragline and large excavator operating principles and limits.
  • Apply safe positioning, walking and digging sequences.
  • Assess bench, highwall and spoil stability during operations.
  • Manage interaction between large machines, fleet and pedestrians.
  • Recognise structural, electrical and mechanical warning signs.
  • Coordinate maintenance access and isolation on large machines.
