Design of Experiments for Research and Development Teams

A practical statistics programme for laboratory and research teams in South African industry who want to learn more from fewer experiments. Delegates plan structured experiments, screen influential factors, model responses and optimise processes using approaches that speed up product and process development while controlling cost.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the logic of structured experimentation versus one factor at a time testing.
  • Plan screening designs to identify the factors that matter most.
  • Set up factorial and response surface designs for process optimisation.
  • Analyse experimental results using clear statistical output and plots.
  • Interpret interactions and build predictive models of process behaviour.
  • Translate findings into robust process and formulation settings.

Course outline

  1. 01Principles of design of experiments
  2. 02Defining factors, levels and responses
  3. 03Screening and fractional factorial designs
  4. 04Full factorial designs and interactions
  5. 05Response surface and optimisation designs
  6. 06Analysing and interpreting results
  7. 07Building and confirming models
  8. 08Applying findings to real processes

Who should attend

Research and development scientists, process and formulation chemists, and laboratory professionals involved in product or process improvement.
