Dangerous Goods Road Transport Safety

Moving fuel, chemicals or gas by road brings legal duties that ordinary freight does not. How dangerous goods are classified, packed, labelled and documented is covered, along with the responsibilities carried by operators and drivers under the National Road Traffic Act. Emergency response and spill handling round out the content.

What you will be able to do

  • Classify dangerous goods by class and identify their hazards.
  • Apply packing, labelling and placarding requirements correctly.
  • Prepare the transport documents that must accompany a load.
  • Explain the duties of operators, consignors and drivers under the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Plan routes and loading to reduce risk to people and property.
  • Respond to a spill, leak or incident on the road.
