Customs Compliance and International Trade Finance

Goods crossing a border carry duties, paperwork and payment risk in equal measure. The focus falls on customs valuation and classification, the documents that move with a shipment, and the finance instruments that protect buyer and seller. Content is grounded in the realities of importing to and exporting from Southern Africa.

What you will be able to do

  • Classify goods correctly and explain why tariff headings matter.
  • Determine customs value using recognised valuation methods.
  • Prepare and check the documents required for import and export.
  • Compare payment methods including letters of credit and documentary collections.
  • Identify the currency and non-payment risks in a cross-border deal.
  • Work with clearing agents and banks to move goods and funds.
