Crushing and Screening Plant Operations and Guarding Safety

Targets the high risk crushing and screening circuits found at African mines and quarries, where entanglement, engulfment and stored energy cause serious injuries. Participants learn safe operation, blockage clearing, guarding and isolation of jaw, cone, impact and screening equipment. The programme emphasises the practical routines that prevent people from being drawn into or struck by moving plant.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify entanglement, engulfment and stored energy hazards in crushing circuits.
  • Apply safe start up, operation and shutdown routines for crushers and screens.
  • Clear blockages and bridging safely without exposure to moving parts.
  • Verify guarding standards and interlocks on plant and conveyors.
  • Isolate mechanical, electrical and hydraulic energy before intervention.
  • Manage chute, feeder and transfer point hazards during operation.
