Conveyor Belt Safety and Guarding for Mining Operations

Targets the entanglement, nip point and cleaning hazards that make conveyor systems a persistent source of serious injury on South African mines and plants. Participants learn safe guarding standards, isolation for belt work, cleaning and inspection routines and the supervision needed to protect workers around materials handling systems.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the hazards associated with mining conveyor systems.
  • Apply guarding standards to nip points and moving components.
  • Isolate and lock out conveyors safely for cleaning and maintenance.
  • Establish safe procedures for belt cleaning and spillage removal.
  • Inspect conveyor guards, pull cords and emergency stops.
  • Supervise safe work practices around materials handling systems.
