Continuous Miner and Mechanised Bord and Pillar Operations Safety

Addresses the specific hazards of mechanised bord and pillar mining using continuous miners, shuttle cars and feeder breakers in Southern African coal and soft rock operations. Delegates learn safe production sequences, ventilation of headings, machine interaction and roof support at the face. The course combines operational efficiency with strict fall of ground and machine safety controls.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the bord and pillar cycle using continuous miners and support fleet.
  • Apply safe machine positioning, tramming and pedestrian separation rules.
  • Manage ventilation and gas control in advancing headings.
  • Install roof and rib support in line with the support standard.
  • Coordinate shuttle car and feeder breaker interaction safely.
  • Monitor production controls without compromising fall of ground safety.
