Contaminated Land Assessment and Site Remediation

Decades of industrial, mining and fuel storage activity have left many African sites with contaminated soil and groundwater that must be assessed before reuse. This programme covers the staged investigation, risk assessment and remediation planning needed to manage such sites responsibly. Delegates learn practical sampling, interpretation and clean up approaches that satisfy regulators and protect surrounding communities.

What you will be able to do

  • Recognise common sources and pathways of soil and groundwater contamination.
  • Plan a phased site investigation from desktop review to intrusive sampling.
  • Interpret laboratory results against relevant screening levels.
  • Assess risks to human health and the surrounding environment.
  • Compare remediation techniques for different contaminants and settings.
  • Prepare a remediation and monitoring plan for regulatory submission.
