Consequence Management and Financial Misconduct Proceedings in Government

This course prepares officials to act on audit findings and irregular expenditure through proper consequence management and financial misconduct proceedings. Participants learn to investigate, refer and process cases in line with public sector frameworks and to build a culture where accountability follows wrongdoing. The programme responds to the accountability gaps that repeatedly surface in African government audit reports.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the legal basis for consequence management in the public sector.
  • Identify when unauthorised, irregular and wasteful expenditure requires investigation.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations and gather evidence of financial misconduct.
  • Refer cases correctly to disciplinary, criminal or recovery processes.
  • Process financial misconduct and loss control matters through the required steps.
  • Build reporting that demonstrates consequence management to oversight bodies.
