Concentrated Solar Power Plant Operations and Maintenance

South Africa's Northern Cape hosts some of the continent's largest concentrated solar power plants, creating demand for specialist operations skills. This programme covers the operation and maintenance of parabolic trough and tower plants, including the solar field, thermal storage and power block. Delegates learn how to maximise availability and dispatchable output from these complex assets.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the main concentrated solar power technologies and how they generate dispatchable power.
  • Operate the solar field, heat transfer fluid and thermal storage systems safely and efficiently.
  • Plan preventive maintenance for mirrors, receivers and tracking systems.
  • Manage the power block and steam cycle for reliable generation.
  • Apply performance monitoring to identify and correct output losses.
  • Implement safety procedures specific to high temperature solar thermal environments.
