Compressed Air and Pneumatic Systems Safety in Mines

Compressed air drives drilling, ventilation and mobile tools across African mines, and its stored energy causes serious injuries when systems fail or are misused. This programme builds practical competence in the safe operation, isolation and maintenance of compressors, receivers and pneumatic tools. Delegates learn to manage hoses, couplings and pressure hazards underground and on surface.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the hazards of stored energy in compressed air systems.
  • Operate compressors, receivers and distribution lines safely.
  • Manage hoses, couplings and pneumatic tools to prevent whip and failure.
  • Apply isolation and pressure release before maintenance work.
  • Inspect pressure vessels and relief devices for safe condition.
  • Establish safe work procedures for pneumatic equipment.
