Business Case Writing for Investment and Funding Decisions

Many South African managers are asked to write business cases for capital projects, system upgrades or funding applications, yet few have ever been shown how to structure one. This course teaches delegates to define the problem, quantify costs and benefits, weigh risk and options, and present a case that gives decision makers, finance committees or funders what they need to approve or decline it with confidence.

What you will be able to do

  • Define the business problem and desired outcome in language decision makers understand.
  • Structure a business case using a logical sequence of problem, options, costs and recommendation.
  • Quantify costs, benefits and return on investment using realistic South African rand figures and assumptions.
  • Assess and disclose risks, dependencies and implementation constraints honestly within the document.
  • Align the business case with organisational strategy, budget cycles and governance requirements.
  • Present a business case for review that withstands scrutiny from finance and executive committees.
