Boiler and Cooling Water Chemistry for Power Stations

Power stations and large industrial boiler plants depend on correct water chemistry to prevent corrosion, scaling and costly unplanned outages. This course covers boiler feedwater treatment, cooling tower water chemistry, corrosion and deposit control, and the routine laboratory testing that plant chemists and technicians use to protect steam generation and cooling systems.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the water chemistry requirements of boiler feedwater and cooling water systems.
  • Describe corrosion and scaling mechanisms in steam generation and cooling equipment.
  • Identify appropriate chemical dosing programmes for boiler and cooling water control.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests for hardness, alkalinity, conductivity and dissolved oxygen.
  • Interpret water chemistry trends to anticipate corrosion or scaling risk.
  • Recommend corrective dosing or blowdown adjustments to restore acceptable water chemistry.
