Blast Vibration, Airblast and Flyrock Control for Mines Near Communities

Addresses the growing challenge of blasting safely near settlements, roads and infrastructure that surround many African mining and quarrying operations. Participants learn to predict and monitor ground vibration, airblast and flyrock, and to manage community relationships and complaints. The programme draws on real cases where poorly controlled blasting damaged structures or triggered regulatory action.

What you will be able to do

  • Predict ground vibration and airblast levels using scaled distance principles.
  • Set and apply compliance limits for structures, roads and sensitive receptors.
  • Monitor blasts with seismographs and interpret waveform and frequency data.
  • Identify flyrock causes and design controls to protect people and property.
  • Manage community notification, complaints and structural surveys.
  • Compile blast monitoring records for regulators and neighbouring stakeholders.
