Biogas and Anaerobic Digestion for Agriculture and Agro-Processing

Farms, abattoirs and food processors across Africa generate organic waste that can be turned into clean biogas and valuable fertiliser through anaerobic digestion. This programme covers the fundamentals of digester design, feedstock management and gas use for productive purposes. Delegates learn how to assess whether a biogas project makes sense and how to run one reliably.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the anaerobic digestion process and the conditions it requires.
  • Assess feedstock availability, quality and mixing for stable operation.
  • Compare digester types suited to farm and agro-processing scales.
  • Plan biogas use for heat, power or cooking and manage the digestate.
  • Identify safety, siting and permitting considerations for a project.
  • Evaluate the costs, benefits and viability of a biogas installation.
